Hope In The Current Economic Climate
I have really tried hard not to write anything about the current economic climate, but I have finally relented.
This post isn’t about woe and worry, however. But rather it’s about seeing the up-side to the current economy and finding ways to benefit and learn from it.
I want to present a few different things you can do to empower yourself now and in the future, when this sort of economic turmoil happens again.
Time To Buy
With all the craziness that is going on with the stock market, with individuals and managed fund managers selling hand-over-fist, you would think that you should stay away from the market, but it is, in reality, the perfect time for you to jump in and buy.
Yes, you read right: buy.
Why? For the simple reason that the prices are right.
You will still have to do your homework and really look into the companies you are thinking about buying to see if they are actually worth owning (buying something just because it is cheap is as bad as buying something that is over-priced) but the rewards down the road could be worth the effort.
If you don’t have the time nor the skills involved to choose your own stocks, you aren’t going to miss out, as you can put your money into an Index Fund and get more bang for your buck.
I have talked about Index Funds before on this site and they are a fantastic way to buy into the market (relatively) safely for the long-term.
And with most stock market prices at all-time lows, now is the perfect time to buy up on Index Funds as your dollar will buy more, so when the stock market finally recovers (and it will), you will reap the rewards.
Lessons Learned
For those affect by the “melt down” and even for those not directly affected, it is a time to learn from what has happened and to prepare for the next time.
Creating an emergency fund is a great start. Diversifying your investments is another. Creating a budget is always a good first step, as is reducing your debt and finding ways to spend less. The trick is to control your money or your will suffer each and every time there is a down-turn in the economy.
Education
Educating yourself in the ways of the economy will help you weather and prepare for its ups and downs. Now would be a great time to start learning new skills so that you are less-affected next time the economy take a turn for the worse, as well as giving you more choices now and in the future.
Whatever you decide to do, now is not the time to panic, or for negative thoughts. It is a time for opportunities and positive change.
Have you thought about how to take advantage of this economic down-turn?
