About

MonoMoney is about personal finance for single people.

It has an Australian focus (as I live in Brisbane, Australia) but the ideas and tips that I write about can be easily used no matter where you live. It simply means that I will be mentioning Australian-focused products, like Superannuation (instead of the American equivalent 401K) and using Australian dollars when mentioning exact dollar amounts.

More About Me:
I am single, male and live alone. And I love it! I have a great job that I am enjoying very much which provides me with great challenges and pushes my limits for prioritizing and time-management - two things I have traditionally struggled with.

I have a great network of friends who I have been friends with for many many years. Unfortunately a lot of them are scattered through Australia and the world. And most are married with children, which takes up a lot of their time.

And while I appreciate that they have chosen that life for themselves, it is not one I am wanting to folow now or in the near future. I guess that is one reason I started this blog.

There are actually three main reasons that I started this blog:

  1. I feel that too many blogs are written by older married men and women who have a family and a lot of what they say has no relevance to me, and to single people in general.
  2. I found a severe glut in Australian-based personal finance blogs. This both surprised and frustrated me. So, instead of just complaining, I decided to go ahead and create one.
  3. The third main reason I started this blog was that I am going through a change in my thought processes. Like most young people, most of my teens and twenties were spent spending. I racked up credit and spend more than I had. Just recently I have decided to turn all that around. I have started to eliminate my debt and I am finally starting to save seriously.

It’s a great feeling, and thinking about finally being financially independent is making me strive harder (and spend less) to reach that goal.

I hope you enjoy and get a lot out of monomoney.com as I am enjoying bringing it to you.

Thanks!
